No. 8 Big Green Drops 4-3 Decision to No. 2/3 St. Lawrence

HANOVER, N.H. - In a rematch of last year's conference championship, St. Lawrence netted the power play gamewinner with 51 seconds remaining to defeat Dartmouth, 4-3, and snap the Big Green's five-game winning streak.

The Saints (9-2-0, 5-0-0 ECAC) got on the board first with a one of their two power play goals on the night as Tara Asktull collected the puck infront after an initial save and found the back of the net.

The lead for St. Lawrence didn't last long as junior Maggie Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn.) scored her fifth of the season on a two-man advantage for the Big Green.

Just minutes into the second period, the Saints went back on top on a nice individual effort from Karell Emard. Emard received a pass from Lisa Batchelor and found her way through the defense and tucked it past junior goaltender Carli Clemis (Taber, Alta.) for the score.

Dartmouth (6-1-1, 4-1-0 ECAC) would even the score again on a exciting goal from freshman Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.). In a clearing attempt from St. Lawrence goaltender Meaghan Guckian, Trunzo intercepted the pass in the Saints zone and scored on the open net to tie the game at 2-2.

St. Lawrence, again, answered and took the lead at 3-2 on a goal from Sabrina Harbec. During a scrum infront of the net Marianna Locke was able to slide a pass through to Harbec who tipped the puck past Clemis.

In the third period, the Big Green fired back to tie the game at 3-3 on a power play goal from junior Shannon Bowman (Leamington, Ont.). Bowman sat between the circles and senior Amy Cobb (Edina, Minn.) took a shot from the point that was redirected by Bowman and just under the crossbar for the goal. For Bowman, it was her first of the season.

Tied at 3-3, Dartmouth was called for interference with 2:09 remaining in the game and St. Lawrence capitalized with their second power play goal of the game. Alison Domenico tallied the gamewinner after a lengthly scrum in front of Clemis.

For Dartmouth, Cobb and junior Julia Bronson (Arlington, Va.) were the top scorers with two assists apiece, while Domenico and Akstull had a goal and an assist for the Saints.

Guckian got the win and moved to 7-2-0 on the season, thanks to 19 saves. Clemis took the loss, making 23 saves.

"We played well," said Dartmouth coach Mark Hudak. "We were able to make adjustments throughout the game, but unfortunately we didn't come out on top."

The Big Green will be back on the Thompson ice tomorrow evening as Dartmouth faces No. 10 Clarkson at 5 p.m. Come to men's hockey at 1 p.m against Bentley and receive free admission to the women's game.
