Yale Men's Basketball Comes from Behind to Defeat Dartmouth
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Yale's Eric Flato scored a game-high 21 points, including a critical basket with 1:02 to go, as the Bulldogs came from behind to hand Dartmouth a heartbreaking loss, 69-64, Friday night.
With the score tied, 61-61, Flato had a baseline runner for a 63-61 lead. Dartmouth turned the ball over on its next possession, and Yale's Ross Morin, who had all 15 of his points in the second half, pushed it to 65-61 on a pair of free throws with 35 seconds left.
The Big Green missed a pair of 3-point attempts, and with eight seconds left, Morin – who was nine-for-nine from the line – made two more free throws for a 67-61 advantage.
Four seconds later, Dartmouth senior Leon Pattman (Memphis, Tenn.) got the Big Green within three with a long-range 3-pointer. Forced to foul, the Big Green sent Flato to the line. He missed both, but had a putback at the buzzer to account for all the scoring.
Dartmouth was ahead of Yale for most of the game, taking its first lead at 16:07 of the first half, before relinquishing it to the Bulldogs with 5:48 to play. The Big Green led at the break, 38-31.
"A couple bounces of the ball and a couple of turnovers toward the end of the game didn't go our way," said Dartmouth senior Jason Meyer (Covington, Ohio). "They hit some big shots and we came up short a couple of times on the offensive end. The little things in the game added up for Yale at the end."
The Big Green (8-14 overall, 3-6 Ivy) had three players in double figures. Pattman scored 15, sophomore Alex Barnett (St. Louis, Mo.) had 13 and sophomore DeVon Mosley (Mesquite, Texas) finished with 12.
The win kept Yale alive in the Ivy race with a 7-2 conference record, 11-11 overall.
