Hanover, N.H. - The sophomore duo of Koren Schram (Batesville, Ark.) and Darcy Rose (Fort Collins, Colo.) had a stellar night to lead the Dartmouth women's basketball team to a 75-53 win over Brown this evening.
With its sixth-straight win, Dartmouth improved to 13-10 (7-2 Ivy) while Brown dropped to 4-20 (2-8 Ivy). The Big Green is firmly in second place behind Harvard who stands at 8-1 in Ivy play .
The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with the teams trading jumpers on each possession. The Big Green got rolling when Kristen Craft (Marshalltown, Iowa) hit a jumper to start an 8-2 Dartmouth run. Rose scored twice during the span to help Dartmouth go up 26-19 at the break.
Dartmouth shot only 36.7 percent from the field, but forced 13 Brown turnovers in the half.
The Big Green started the second half with a big triple from Craft followed by a strong move in the paint by Sydney Scott (Houston, Texas), forcing Brown to call a timeout. Rose converted a conventional three-point play after the stoppage and Dartmouth continued to roll.
Schram caught fire with five-straight points to put Dartmouth up 43-28 at 15:13 and Brown would never cut it to single digits for the rest of the game. Brown had its moments in the half, including a 5-0 mini-run that included a three by Lena McAfee, but Dartmouth's offense was too potent for the Bears to contain.
Every available Dartmouth player saw action in the contest and the Big Green held its largest lead of the game with 47 seconds left, up 73-50 after four-straight from Schram.
Each team scored once more and Dartmouth finished up with the 75-53 advantage. The Big Green shot a scorching 61.5 percent from the field in the second half.
Schram finished with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting including four triples while Rose had a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Brown's Courtney Lee and Shae Fitzpatrick each had 12 points in the losing effort. Scott rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points while rookie Margatet Smith (Fort Worth, Texas) added nine.
The Big Green welcomed back its alumnae to the game tonight, with 11 former Dartmouth players ranging from the classes of 1986 to 2006 in attendance.
Dartmouth hits the road next weekend when it heads to Princeton and Penn on Feb. 23 and 24, both at 7:00 p.m. The Big Green will look to sweep the season series against both the Tigers and the Quakers.
