Dartmouth Men's Basketball Drops 61-55 Decision to Columbia

HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth men's basketball team got a 19-point effort from senior Leon Pattman (Memphis, Tenn.), but the Big Green lost its third game in a row, falling to Columbia, 61-55.
After a sluggish first-half by both teams - Dartmouth shot 30.8 percent while the Lions mustered only 23.1 - Columbia picked up the pace in the second, connecting on 52.6 percent for 35.6 percent for the game.
The Big Green also shot better after the break. With 53.8 percent in the second half, Dartmouth improved to 42.3, but the game was decided at the free throw line where Columbia was 23-of-27 for 85.2 percent. The Big Green only went to the line 11 times, making six.
The Lions held a 24-20 halftime lead and built it to nine, 39-30, on a layup by Kevin Bulger with 10:30 to go.
The Big Green (7-12 overall, 2-4 Ivy) used a 13-4 run to tie the game. With 6:12 remaining, Pattman scored on a jumper to make it 43-43, but Dartmouth couldn't pull past the Lions in the final minutes.
For Columbia (12-8 overall, 3-3 Ivy), John Baumann banged in a 3-pointer with 5:33 to go for a 46-43 advantage. The Lions went six-for-six from the free throw line in the next three minutes before Baumann fired in another trey for a 55-51 lead at 1:24.
Baumann led all players with 21 points and 14 rebounds.
For Dartmouth, sophomore Alex Barnett (St. Louis, Mo.) had 15 points, four rebounds and four blocked shots.
The Big Green begins a four-game road trip, traveling to Penn on February 9 and Princeton on February 10.
