PHILADELPHIA, PA. – Four Penn players scored in double-figures against the Big Green, lifting the Quakers men's basketball team past Dartmouth, 73-53, tonight at the Palestra.
The Quakers shot 48 percent from the field in the first half, led by Mark Zoller's 12 points. The first half leader for the Big Green was senior Johnathan Ball (Memphis, Tenn.) who put up eight points. Sophomore Alex Barnett (St. Louis, Mo.) pitched in with seven in the opening 20 minutes, but Penn created a, 40-26, lead going into the lockerrooms.
Penn's defensive pressure forced the Big Green to make 21 turnovers, the team's second highest in a game this season. The Quakers took advantage of Dartmouth's costly mistakes, as they produced 23 points off turnovers, and had 12 fast break points.
Dartmouth's inconsistent shooting, put them behind as many as 20 points in the second half. Zoller finished as the games leading scorer with 19 points. Steve Danley also put up 15 and nine rebounds for the Quakers.
Barnett led the Big Green in scoring, ending the night with 13 points and seven boards. Sophomore Marlon Sanders (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) also put up 11 points.
Dartmouth finished the night shooting 35 percent from the field and just 25 percent from behind the arch.
The Big Green will hit the court tomorrow night, as they finish off their Ivy League road weekend at Princeton. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.
