PRINCETON, N.J. – Sophomore DeVon Mosley (Mesquite, Texas) hit two free-throws in the final seconds of the game, to lift the Big Green men's basketball team past Princeton, 45-44, at Jadwin Gymnasium.
Straight from the opening tip-off, Dartmouth controlled the offensive pace of the game. The Big Green kicked off the first 20 minutes on a, 6-0, run. It wasn't too long before the Tigers found their rhythm and began to diminish Dartmouth's lead.
Eight Tiger shooters found the bucket in the first half giving them a slight 27-24 lead going into the lockerrooms. Princeton's leader at the midway point was Matt Sargeant, who shot 3-for-4 from the field for seven points.
Leading the way for the Big Green in the opening half was sophomore Alex Barnett (St. Louis, Mo.) who had a game-high eight points. Senior Johnathan Ball (Memphis, Tenn.) also pulled down seven boards for Dartmouth in the first half.
Princeton is a very tough team,” Ball said. “They had us running around all night on defense.”
Barnett brought his hot-hand into the second half, scoring 15 of the team's 21 points in the second half. His 23 points on the night was a career-high.
Ball had a career-high night of his own, pulling down 14 rebounds and adding five points.
But it was two key free-throws by Mosley that gave Dartmouth a three-point lead with just 18 seconds left on the clock. The Tigers pushed the ball up the court, but couldn't only produce two points, giving the Big Green the, 45-44, Ivy League win.
The win snaps a 19-game losing streak at Jadwin Gymnasium. Before tonight, Princeton had won 10 of the last 11 meetings between the two.
Dartmouth will hit the road again next weekend when they travel to Yale and Brown for two more Ivy League contests.
