HAMILTON, N.Y. - With two goals by senior Katie Weatherston (Thunder Bay, Ont.), the third-ranked Dartmouth women's hockey team defeated Colgate, 5-1, in ECACHL action Friday night.
The victory pushed the Big Green's record to 20-4-2 overall, 17-1-1 in the conference. It's Dartmouth's seventh 20-win season in the last eight years.
Three goals came on the power play, including the first of the game. Sophomore Maggie Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn.) scored a power play marker at 13:19 of the first.
The Big Green lead went to 3-0 in the second. Senior Gillian Apps (Unionville, Ont.) scored just 17 seconds into the stanza, and sophomore Julia Bronson (Arlington, Va.) had a power play goal with 1:39 left.
It was all Weatherston in the third as she pushed the Dartmouth lead to 4-0 on a shorthanded goal at 2:01. Five minutes later, Weatherston scored on the power play as freshman Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass.) picked up her second assist of the night.
Colgate (13-13-2 overall, 12-5-1 ECACHL) ruined the shutout bid with 2:09 left in regulation when Sam Hunt scored a power play goal.
In the nets, Dartmouth sophomore Carli Clemis (Taber, Alta.) made 18 saves, while Colgate's Brook Wheeler stopped 28 shots. Sophomore Shannon Bowman (Leamington, Ont.) and senior Caroline Ethier (Matagami, Que.) each contributed an assist for the Big Green.
Dartmouth returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Cornell for a 4 p.m. faceoff.
