HANOVER, N.H. – Junior
J.T. Wyman (Wayzata, Minn.) scored the gamewinning goal with 6:45 left in the third period, and Dartmouth took a 3-2 decision over Princeton Saturday night in ECACHL quarterfinal action. With the goal, Wyman notched five points on the weekend.
Wyman rifled a shot past Tiger netminder B.J. Sklapsky, giving the Big Green (18-10-3) two victories in the best of three series and a trip to the ECACHL semi-finals next Friday in Albany, N.Y. In Game One, Dartmouth defeated the Tigers, 6-2.
Dartmouth got on the board at 6:38 in the first after
Nick Johnson (Calgary, Alta.) brought the puck around behind the net shooting up to
David Jones (North Vancouver, B.C.). Jones fired a shot on Sklapsky that was saved by the Princeton goalie but as Sklapsky came out of his crouch the puck got away from him, sliding across the line.
The Tigers tied things up at 7:22 in the second off a connection by Lee Jubinville, Kevin Westgarth and Brett Westgarth. Then with the game tied, 1-1, in the third period, Dartmouth took a 2-1 lead with 8:11 left in regulation. Jones grabbed the loose puck at mid-ice, deked Sklapsky out of the net and slid the puck in the near side. The goal was Jones' second shorthanded of the season.
Wyman pushed the Dartmouth lead to 3-1 less than two minutes later.
Princeton (15-16-3) used a Mark Magnowski goal 34 seconds later to make it 3-2, and Dartmouth survived a wild flurry in the final minute when the Tigers pulled Sklapsky in favor of the extra skater.
In the nets, Dartmouth's
Mike Devine (Orchard Park, N.Y.) made 27 saves, including 15 in the third period, while Sklapsky had 29.
The Big Green now faces Clarkson in the semi-finals. The Golden Knights ousted Harvard in two games. St. Lawrence - who defeated Colgate in two - faces Quinnipiac who used two games to defeat Cornell.
