DeLAND, Fla. – The Dartmouth softball team dropped two to Stetson University on Thursday. Stetson used a grand slam home run in the bottom of the sixth inning of Game One to give the Hatters two 7-1 victories on the day.
Stetson scored one run in the first and two in the second for an early lead in the opening contest. Dartmouth struck back off freshman Alyssa Parker's (Spring Valley, Calif.) first collegiate home run in the fourth inning but the Hatters put four more across in the bottom of the sixth
Heather Colding recorded her seventh win of the season for Stetson. Colding allowed only one run on six hits in five innigs of work. For the Big Green Stephanie Trudeau (Spokane, Wash.) went the complete game allowing seven earned runs on nine hits with two strikeouts.
Game Two had the Hatters squad blasting another home run late in the game to seal the 7-1 win for Stetson.
The two teams were scoreless until the bottom of the third when Stetson plated two off one hit. The Hatters added one more in the fourth and three in the fifth before Dartmouth got one on the board.
Christy Autin (Harwood Heights, Ill.) started the sixth inning off with a walk before Nikki Yee (Martinez, Calif.) doubled to move Autin to third. After another walk a Kelly Fry (Marietta, Ga.) single scored Autin, moved Yee to third and Parker to second. With the bases loaded the Big Green was unable to get any more runs as the Hatters recorded three straight outs.
In game two Demers took to the circle for Stetson, allowing only one run and four hits. Angela Megaw (Bomoseen, Vt.) was the pitcher for Dartmouth. The junior went the complete game with six earned runs and six strikeouts.
Dartmouth is now 4-11 while Stetson improves to 22-9.
The Big Green will take Friday off before traveling to Jacksonville for a doubleheader with the Dolphins starting at noon.
