PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Dartmouth softball team used 13 runs on 11 hits in the second game to sweep the Brown Bears in a doubleheader today at the Brown Softball Field. The Big Green won the first contest 5-2 and were victorious in the nightcap, 13-0.
In the first game of the day Dartmouth went up 3-0 through the first three innings of play. After scoring one more in the top of the fourth, Brown finally got on the board with two at the bottom of the frame. A double by Ashley Gleason in the top of the seventh scored one more to make it a 5-2 Dartmouth final.
Gleason, Kelly Fry, Alyssa Parker and Katie Chifcian all went 2-for-4 with Chifcian scoring twice and belting her third home run of the season.
In the circle, Stephanie Trudeau picked up her fourth win on her second shutout of the year. Trudeau gave up just one earned run while striking out nine. For Brown, Jessica Iwasaki took the loss, allowing 12 hits and four earned runs.
Game Two was all Dartmouth as the Big Green scored runs in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings to end the game by virtue of the eight-run rule.
Dartmouth used a six-run fourth inning to put the game away as the Big Green batted around the inning for the first time this season. In the inning, all but one Dartmouth runner came around to score.
Fry was the big hitter in the game going, 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. Christy Autin and Chifcian both went 2-for-2 as Autin added two runs and one RBI and Chifcian scored once.
Angela Megaw was the winner in the circle as the junior earned her third shutout and 11th complete game. It was Megaw's first no-hitter of the season. Michelle Moses picked up the loss for Brown.
With the win Dartmouth improves to 8-21 overall, 4-6 in the Ivy League while Brown falls to 7-22, 1-9 Ivy. The Big Green continues at Brown tomorrow with a doubleheader scheduled for 12:00 pm.
