Men's Tennis
vs Dartmouth Invite #1
4/22/2007 12:00:00 AM | Men's Tennis
The No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches were played extremely well on both sides and came down to tie breakers to determine the outcome. Unfortunately, after winning the No. 2 match (Schechtman/Freeman) the No. 1 match got away from the Green after being up 3-2 in the breaker and dropping it 7-5. Yale took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3.
The singles matches were equally exciting with Steven McGaughey leading the way for the Green with his straight set victory at the No. 4 spot bring the team score to 1-1. Jeffrey Schechtman, fighting off cramping and a cold dropped his match at No. 3, giving the lead back to Yale 2-1.
The No. 1 match pitted senior captain David Waslen against the top Ivy singles player Brandon Wai. After dropping the first set, 6-4, Waslen got up a break in the third set. With Waslen leading 5-3, Wai hit several amazing returns to get the break back. They then served out to a tie breaker in which Wait earned the Bulldogs match-winning fourth point.
Ari Gayer was still on the court and lost a long battle 6-4, but Justin Tzou beat Rory Green at No. 5 in straight sets.
