PRINCETON, N.J. - The Dartmouth softball team gave up a 3-1 lead late in Game Two as Princeton rallied in the nightcap to sweep the doubleheader at Class of 1895 Softball Field in Princeton. The Tigers won the first game, 6-1 while stealing Game Two, 5-3..
Despite aggressive play by the Big Green early in the first game, Princeton strung together hits in the second and third innings to take a 3-0 lead. One run in the fourth and two in the fifth put the Tigers ahead, 5-0. In the sixth, Kelly Fry singled up the middle to start things off for Dartmouth. A one-out walk issued to Leigha Clarkson moved Fry to second. J.J. Wright blasted a single up the middle to load the bases. Katie Chifician was hit by a pitch, plating Fry for the solo run.
Wright went 2-for-3 in the game while Stephanie Trudeau in the circle for the Big Green went the complete game, allowing six earned runs while striking out two. The loss drops Trudeau to 4-11 on the season.
In the nightcap the home team took a quick 1-0 lead after the opening frame. In the third, Dartmouth tied things up. With two outs Nikki Yee walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Ashley Gleason doubled to center field, bringing Yee home.
In the fifth Dartmouth added another run to take the lead. Kirsten Costello got the first hit of the inning by singling through the right side and moving to second on a stoeln base. Christy Autin walked to put runners at first and second for Yee who doubled to right center, scoring Costello.
The sixth had the Big Green scoring its final run to go up 3-1. A two-out homerun by Leigha Clarkson seemed like it was going to give Dartmouth its first win of the weekend but the TIgers rallied with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win, 5-3.
Yee was 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Angela Megaw pitched the entire game for Dartmouth, allowing three earned runs while striking out five.
Dartmouth will be home a nonconference midweek game against Sacred Heart before heading to Brown for two days of doubleheaders next weekend.
