
Three Athletes Named CoSIDA Academic All-America

HANOVER, N.H. - Dartmouth has had three of its spring athletes named District I CoSIDA Academic All-America. Nick Bonacci (Crofton, Md.) of the men's lacrosse team, Whitney Douthett (Newtown, Pa.) of the women's lacrosse team and skier Lindsay Mann (Bedford, Mass.) all received the honor. Bonacci is a repeat honoree after being named first team last season and he will be put on the national ballot.
Bonacci is a three-year starter and four-year letterwinner for the Big Green. He finished the 2007 season as the team's third leading scorer with 45 points. In 2006 and 2007 he was named first team All-Ivy and All-New England along with Academic All-Ivy. Recently he was chosen to participate in the 2007 North-South All-Star game to be held at the lacrosse championships in Baltimore, Md. He is also an NEILA Scholar-Athlete as well as Dartmouth's 1948 Scholar-Athlete. Bonacci was nominated for 2007 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.He currently has a 3.88 GPA in economics.
Douthett was recently named first team IWLCA All-Region after leading her team in scoring for the 2007 season. She ends her career with 201 points, graduating as the Big Green's third leading scorer. Douthett was voted first team All-Ivy four years in a row. A two-sport athlete, she also captained the Dartmouth women's soccer team in 2006, earning second team All-Ivy recognition. She was given Dartmouth's Agnes B. Kurtz Award which is presented to the “woman who best combines proficiency in athletics with dedication to the furthering of women's athletics.” Douthett was a Tewaarton Award nominee for the nation's best women's lacrosse player in 2007. She has a 3.23 GPA in government.
Mann helped Dartmouth to its first NCAA team championship in 31 years after finishing fifth in women's alpine and fourth in slalom at the NCAA Championships. She was the 2007 Eastern (EISA) women's slalom champion as her team went undefeated in the EISA carnival season (6-0). Mann has been a first team All-East and All-America selection. She finished first and second in two slalom races at Dartmouth's Winter Carnival. Mann spent eight weeks in the summer of 2006 living and working on Alaska's Juneau Icefield as part of her research for her senior thesis. She intends to pursue a graduate degree in glaciology as she has a 3.56 GPA in earth sciences.
To be nominated for consideration, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her career. No athlete is eligible until he/she has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution (thus, true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible transfers are not eligible).
