HANOVER, N.H. - Dartmouth freshman
Davis Mullany (Great Barrington, Mass.) got his golf career off to an impressive start, winning the Big Green's invitational on Sunday and helping his squad to the team title.
At Hanover Country Club, Mullany shot 70-73-143, one over par, for a solid four-shot victory over Tim Buczak of Central Connecticut, as Dartmouth topped the 10-school field with 599.
Mullany became the first Dartmouth men's golfer to win an individual title in six years. Lee Birchall '02 was the last to take top honors, claiming the Yale Invitational on April 7-8, 2001, with rounds of 70-70-140. Birchall also was the last Big Green golfer to win the Dartmouth Invitational, taking the top spot on September 23-24, 2000.
The Big Green placed four golfers in the top 10 for a 12-stroke victory over Central Connecticut. Sophomore
Dave Putney (Unionville, Conn.) was next for Dartmouth. His rounds of 73-78---151 put him in a tie for fourth.
A shot back was junior
Rob Henley (Longmeadow, Mass.) who was tied for seventh with 75-77-152. Senior captain
Jamie Wallace (Moorestown, N.J.) was the solo finisher in 10th with 76-77-153.
Dartmouth continues the fall season on September 29-30, traveling to the Cornell Invitational.
