HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth women's hockey team tallied five first period goals and cruised past Cornell, 8-0, to earn its second Ivy League win of the season on Saturday afternoon.
For the Big Green (11-4-2, 8-3-0 ECAC, 2-1-0 Ivy), junior Maggie Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn.) led the Big Green with a pair of scores, including the lone power play goal of the game, while sophomore Jenna Cunningham (Medicine Hat, Alta.) added a goal and two assists in the win.
Also contributing for Dartmouth was junior Shannon Bowman (Leamington, Ont.), who posted three assists for the third time in her career and second time this season. Senior Amy Cobb (Edina, Minn.) netted her fourth of the season, which is a single season career-high, and junior Marley McMillan (St. Paul, Minn.) recorded a career-high two points, earning her first of the season, 1:34 into the contest. She would add her second point on the very next goal scored by Cunningham.
Sophomore Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass.) and senior Nicole Ruta (Pickering, Ont.) each added a goal and an assist, while senior Carrie Thompson (Shorewood, Minn.) scored Dartmouth's final goal of the game in the second period for her fourth of the year.
Sophomore goaltender Mariel Lacina (London, Ont.) made her third start of the season and pushed aside 20 shots to earn her second shutout of the season and her career.
For Cornell (7-6-1, 4-3-1 ECAC), sophomore netminder Jenny Niesluchowski did not make it out of the first period as she allowed all five goals, while making 13 saves in the opening period. Freshman Katie Wilson played the final two periods, making 14 stops, including eight in the second period.
The Big Green will be on the road for its next two contests as Dartmouth travels north to Clarkson on Friday, January 11, for a 7 p.m. face-off with the Golden Knights, followed by a 4 p.m. start on Saturday, January 12, against No. 6 St. Lawrence. The Big Green will be back home on January 17 with an in-state matchup with top-ranked New Hampshire at 7 p.m. at Thompson Arena.
