FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Of the 51 golfers to participate in the Sacred Heart Classic the past two days, Dartmouth senior Lauren Strickler (Akron, Ohio) was one of just two to break 80 in both rounds, finishing the tournament at 79-77?156 (+12) to place second. Her performance helped the Big Green score a 674 to finish in fourth place among the nine teams in the final tournament of the fall for the squad.
Host Sacred Heart took home the team title with a 639, 16 strokes ahead of runner-up Brown. The Pioneers also had three of the top four golfers in the event, with Strickler the only outsider to crash their party. Carly Bergin had the low round on Monday with a 75 and carded a 154 (+10) for the two rounds, just two strokes ahead of Strickler.
Two other Big Green golfers cracked the top 20 individuals. Sophomore Katie Gulemi (Fairfield, Conn.), playing in her hometown, shot 83-87?170 (+26), good for 18th, while freshman Kathleen Quirk (Kansas City, Mo.) tied for 19th with 86-87?163 (+29). Rounding out the team were rookies Marietta Smith (Mount Prospect, Ill.), who rebounded from a 92 on the first day to shoot 83 in the final round and place 24th, and Heather Roland (Newtown Square, Pa.), who tied for 38th.
Dartmouth finished just six strokes behind Boston University in the team standings, and only 10 of the 102 rounds played ended with a score below 80.
