HAMDEN, Conn. - Sophomore Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.) netted two goals, one on the power play, and posted an assist for a three-point night to lead the Dartmouth women's hockey team to a shutout victory as the Big Green earned a 3-0 win over Quinnipiac.
In addition to Trunzo's two tallies, senior Maggie Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn.) got in on the act with her first of the season and also added an assist. Senior Carli Clemis (Taber, Alta.) earned her first shutout of the year and the seventh of her career. She wasn't tested for most of the night, making 13 saves.
Dartmouth (2-0-0, 2-0-0 ECAC Hockey) got on the board five minutes into the first period as Trunzo posted her first of the season with Kennedy added the helper for her second of the year.
In the first period, the Big Green dominated with a 15-6 advantage in shots, but went 0-2 on the power play with just three shots coming with the man advantage.
Trunzo once again came through as she increased the lead to 2-0 with her second of the evening, this time it came on the power play. Dartmouth took advantage of its lone power play of the second period, scoring on its only shot. Junior Jenna Cunningham (Medicine Hat, Alta.) recorded the assist, giving her two points on the season.
The second period was different from the opening frame as Dartmouth was held under double-digit shots with the Big Green firing just nine shots on net. Luckily for Dartmouth, Quinnipiac had trouble as well, going 0-2 on the power play and the Bobcats could only manage two shots on Clemis.
Kennedy gave the Big Green more insurance in the third period with her first of the year. She was infront of the net when senior Julia Bronson (Arlington, Va.) put a shot on net that was saved by Quinnipiac goaltender Tia Wishart and Kennedy was at the post to jam home the puck into the empty net.
Quinnipiac (1-9-0, 0-2-0 ECAC Hockey) finished the night 0-for-5 on the power play and was oushot by the Big Green 40-14. The Bobcats did not reach double-digit shots in any period. Nanna Holm-Glass got the start in net and posted 22 saves, including 14 in the first period. She was relieved by Wishart in the third period and she made 15 saves in her only period of play.
Dartmouth returns to action this coming Wednesday in the home opener for the Big Green as Hockey East rival Boston College travels to Hanover for a 7 p.m. start at Thompson Arena.
