? The Dartmouth women's swimming and diving team challenged throughout its meet with Columbia, but fell to the Lions, 192-104, in the Big Green's final regular-season meet
Freshman Anna Sonstegard (Sioux Falls, S.D.)
earned two wins for the Big Green, placing first in the 1000 yard freestyle and
was a member of the team that won the 500 yard individual medley relay.
In the relay, Sonstegard teamed up with junior Hillary
Preston (Medina, Wash.),
freshman Virginia Selden (Birmingham, Ala.) and freshman Maddie Steiner (Dallas, Texas)
to place first with a time of 4:42.10 to earn 11 points for the Big Green.
Sonstegard blew away her competition in the 1000 yard freestyle as she
finished with a collegiate-best time of 10:29.36. She eclipsed her previous
best by 16 seconds and beat her competition by the same 16 seconds.
Dartmouth got two second place finishes from senior captain
Liz Mancuso in the 100 yard individual medley with a time of 1:02.61 and the 100 yard butterfly
with a time of 1:00.29. Steiner took second in the 500 yard freestyle with a
time of 5:10.78 and senior Jackie Benson (Lynnwood,
Wash.) placed
second in the 50 yard breaststroke with a time of 0:33.13.
On the diving side, senior Julianne Mifflin (Greenwich, Conn.)
took second in the 3-meter dive with a score of 257.55 and placed third in the
1-meter with a score of 251.25.
Next up for the Big Green women's swimming and diving team
will be Ivy Championships at Princeton on the
weekend of February 28-March 1.
