PRINCETON, N.J. ? The Dartmouth women's swimming and diving team finished its 2007-08 season on Saturday afternoon, setting eight new all-time records over the three days at the Women's Ivy League Championship at DeNunzio Pool.
Dartmouth had a successful championship with 25 allt-time Top-10 peformances, with eight new records, while the Big Green had five finalists and all 18 members of the swimming and diving team contributed to Dartmouth's total points.
The Big Green swam to a new all-time record in the 400 yard freestyle relay as junior Heather Jankins (Raynham, Mass.), senior co-captain Liz Mancuso (Andover, Mass.), junior Hillary Preston (Medina, Wash.) and freshman Anna Sonstegard (Sioux Falls, S.D.) finished in sixth place with a time of 3:28.48.
Mancuso added an eighth place finish in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.99 and also had a lifetime-best in the prelims with a time of 2:04.83. Freshman Virginia Selden (Birmingham, Ala.) took seventh place in the finals of the 200 yard butterfly, swimming to a lifetime-best finish of 2:04.75. In the same event, sophomore Emily Pizzichemi (Dunmore, Pa.) swam a personal-best in the prelims with a time of 2:07.85 and placed 18th in the finals with a time of 2:08.19. For Selden, she is now second all-time in the 200 yard butterfly, while Mancuso cemented herself in the third position all-time.
Sonstegard placed 11th in the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 17:16.37, which was a lifetime-best and she is now second all-time in the event in her first year at Dartmouth. Freshman Kelsey Clark (Sarasota, Fla.) had an impressive final day with a lifetime-best in the same event with a time of 17:37.14, which put her in 16th place. Senior co-captian Zoe Bisk (Steilacoom, Wash.), swimming in her final meet, place 18th in the long-distance swim with at time of 18:00.21.
In the 100 yard freestyle, Preston set a new Dartmouth record with a lifetime-best swim of 0:50.79, which put her as a previsional qualifier for the NCAA Championship. Jankins wasn't far behind with a time of 0:51.23, which placed her ninth.
Freshman Lindsay Wahl (Pittsford, N.Y.) was the high finisher for Dartmouth in the 200 yard backstroke with a personal-best swim of 2:04.94. Sophomore Carolyn Rippe (Colleyville, Texas) finished behind Wahl with a time of 2:06.42 and also set a new career-best 2:05.97 in the prelims. Senior Megan Crapster (Tolland, Conn.) ended her career and a successful weekend with a 2:07.51 finish and a personal-best 2:07.42 during the preliminary heats.
In the 200 yard breastsroke, senior Jackie Benson (Lynnwood, Wash.) swam to a 16th place finish with a time of 2:25.46, in her final event of her career. Sophomore Meredith Blank (Long Lake, Minn.) placed behind Benson with a time of 2:28.22, while sophomore Katrina Ortblad (Seattle, Wash.) finished with a time of 2:28.94 and swam a lifetime-best time of 2:27.17 in her preliminary heat.
Dartmouth finished the 2008 Women's Ivy League Championship with 624 points over the three days of competition, while Princeton claimed the 2008 title with a total of 1,651.5 points.
