NEW HAVEN, Conn. ? The Dartmouth men's basketball team took a tough 97-58 loss at Yale tonight in the final stop of a grueling four-game road trip.
Junior Alex Barnett (St. Louis, Mo.) scored 15 points to lead the Big Green as Dartmouth now goes to 1-5 in the Ivy League and 8-12 overall.
As the game started, it seemed like the Big Green would be able to keep up with the Bulldogs. A jumper from junior DeVon Mosley (Mesquite, Texas) and a lay-up from freshman John Marciano (Roselle Park, N.J.) kept Dartmouth tied with Yale, 4-4.
That was where it ended for the Big Green, however. Dartmouth then hit an eight-minute scoring drought as Yale denied it any second chances at the net. The Bulldogs proceeded to score 16 unanswered points to drive up the score 20-4 with 10:44 still left to play in the first half.
Although Dartmouth began to score once again with a field goal from Elgin Fitzgerald (Colorado Springs, Colo.), it was unable to close the demanding lead that Yale had already built. Going into halftime, the Bulldogs led the Big Green 48-27.
Things only got worse for the Big Green in the second half. Yale scored 49 points in the second half to Dartmouth's 31. In the final minutes, Yale pressed Dartmouth hard, the goal of 100 points in its sights, but the Bulldogs fell short of a three-digit score in the end. Even so, the final buzzer put the score at 97-58.
Yale's Matt Kyle put up the game-high 19 points, going 9-for-10 from the floor. Matt Pinick, also of Yale, pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.
Going into Saturday's game, Dartmouth and Yale had identical records of 8-11. Dartmouth now goes to 1-5 in the Ivy League and 8-12 overall.
After going 0-4 for the last two weekends on the road, Dartmouth will return home next Friday, Feb. 15 to face Columbia, and will take on Cornell the next day, Feb. 16.
