MEDFORD, Mass. - Behind 11 first place finishes, the Dartmouth College men's & women's outdoor track and field teams both placed first out of 13 teams at the Tufts Snowflake Invitational Saturday. Natalie Stoll (Portland, Ore.), Cassandre Tanner (Baltimore, Md.), Emily Daly (Hopkinton, Mass.), Jaclyn Wypler (Ridgewood, N.J.), Julian Thomas (San Antonio, Texas), Lee Murtha (Pierpont, Ohio), David Irving (Manchester, N.H.), Alex Lippai (West Mifflin, Pa.) and Tyler Koskenoja (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) along with former Big Green athlete Muhammed Abdul-Shakoor (Stone Mountain, Ga.), each clinched first place in their respective events. .
Dartmouth won the women's competition with 196.50 points, followed by Tufts (139.50), Bates (138) and BU 106). The Big Green men won with an impressive 223 points followed by Tufts (154), Bates (102), Southern Maine (74) and Boston University (54).
Dartmouth women were impressive in the field events as Wypler won the javelin with a throw of 39.88m while Daly and Jessica Long (Lynn, Mass.) finished one and two in the hammer throw with distances of 52.06m and 50.79m. Daly was also tops in the shot put with a throw of 12.69m. Christina Alexander (Austin, Texas) and Long were third and fourth in the event. The Big Green had five women place in the top-five for jumps. Tanner won the long jump with a distance of 5.25m while Jessica Robson (Newport Beach, Calif.) was third and Micaela Carwell (Laconia, N.H.) was fourth. Carwell and Kristin Kern (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) finished third and fourth in the triple jump. Sarah Klassen (Peterborough, Ont.) and Erika Graham (East Longmeadow, Mass.) both finished second in the high jump and pole vault events, respectively.
Stoll's time of 59.49 in the 400m dash won her first, followed by Alexandra Tanner (Baltimore, Md.) with a time of 1:00.76 while Elyse Gabel (Mason, Ohio) with a time of 1:03.16 was fourth and Robin Bankert's (Niskayuna, N.Y.) time of 1:04.19 gave her fifth. Stoll was also third in the 200m dash with a time of 27.30 while Karen Woolley (Herndon, Va.) was impressive in the hurdle events with a second place finish in the 100m hurdles and a third place finish in the 400m hurdles
Freshman Abdul-Shakoor won the 100m dash with a time of 11.37 and was fifth in the 200m dash. The Big Green had five men finish in the top-eight of the 100m event while taking four of the top-five spots in the 200m dash. Upperclassmen Thomas and Koskenoja were first and second in the 400m dash with times of 51.34 and 51.62. In the distance runs Elliot Henry (Newfields, N.H.) and Chase Eldredge (Douglasville, Ga.) both finished fourth in the 1500m and 5000m runs, respectively.
In the field events on the men's side Andrew Ching (Calgary, Alta.) placed second in the high jump while Kevin Muse was fourth in the pole vault. Dartmouth took spots two through six in the long jump while Sean Nelson (Birmingham, Ala.) was second in the triple jump. Murtha was impressive in the shot put with a throw of 14.27m. Chris Alexander (Austin, Texas) and Irving were third and fourth. The Big Green was equally phenomonally in the discus as Dartmouth placed men in every spot but one. Irving won the discus with a throw of 44.87m while Koskenoja was third, Tim Wunderlich (Westminster, Md.) was fourth, Murtha was fifth and Kane Kunz (Wheat Ridge, Colo.) was sixth.
Lippai and Irving were tops in the hammer throw as Lippai was first with a throw of 52.54m. Koskenoja won the javelin with a throw of 57.99m.
The two teams take on Ivy League opponents next week at the Princeton Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
