ITHACA, N.Y.?The
Dartmouth softball team was swept by Cornell on Wednesday
afternoon as the Big Red picked up victories in both games of the doubleheader. The home team opened with a 3-1 win in Game One and then came away with an 11-3 five-inning victory in Game Two.
Cornell's Devon March opened the
bottom of the first inning with a single and advanced to second off a
sac bunt before Alyson Intihar hit a double
to drive in March and advanced to third on the throw. Elise
Menaker followed with a sac fly to right field, allowing Intihar to tag
up and score.
Dartmouth responded In the top of the second when
Sarah Bankoff (Lynnfield, Mass.) walked and advanced to second on a ground out by
J.J. Wright (Colleyville, Texas).
Kirsten Costello (Windsor, N.Y.) reached base on a Big Red error and
Bankoff came around to score the Big Green's sole run on the play.
In the bottom of the inning with two
outs, junior Jessy Berkey knocked the ball over the rightfield fence to put Cornell up 3-1.
Angela Megaw (Bomoseen, Vt.) took the loss for the Big Green while Jenn Meunier improves to 14-1 on the season with the win.
After holding Dartmouth scoreless in
the top of the first, the Big Red exploded for eight runs in the bottom of
the inning. The Big Green responded In the top of the second when
Leigha Clarkson (Perris, Calif.) launched a ball over the left field fence for a solo home run.
The Big Green followed in the third inning with
Christy Autin (Harwood Heights, Ill.) singling before Costello notched a
two-run homer over center field. The Big Red added another run in the fourth and fifth innings to end the game.
Stephanie Trudeau (Spokane, Wash.) began the game in the circle before being relieved by Devon Lindsay (Whittier, Calif.).
The Big Green continues Ivy play this
weekend when it will travels to Brown. Dartmouth takes on the Bears in
two doubleheaders, with games beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday
and and 12:00 on Sunday.
