WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Dartmouth (2-4) women's volleyball team dropped its first game to host Army (11-1) at the Army Invitational on Thursday. The Black Knights did not allow the Big Green to win a game as game scores were 25-18, 25-22 and 25-16.
In Game One it was point-for-point as neither team seemed to have the edge. Army started to pull away, going up by four at 18-14. The Black Knights increased its lead to 21-16 as the Big Green could never recover enroute to a 25-18 Army win.
In the second game, Dartmouth went ahead early but the home team kept the Big Green in its sights as the two proceeded to record four lead changes and five ties over the next couple of serves. The Black Knights went up by two before kills by Madeline Baird (Austin, Texas) and Kelsey Johnson (Carlsbad, Calif.) gave Dartmouth a one point lead. Another kill, this time by Megan MacGregor (Carlsbad, Calif.) and a service ace by Johnson had the Big Green with a two point lead before Army again stormed back to knot the score at 14 and take the lead. A kill by the Black Knight's Jamie Clark gave the home team a four-point lead at 20-16. MacGregor decreased Army's lead to two as her two kills brought the score to 24-22 before a kill by Clark gave the Knights the 25-22 victory.
In the third game Army took a good-sized lead going up by as much as seven. A kill by MacGregor and a Black Knights error had Dartmouth down by four at 14-10 but Army did not allow the Big Green to get any closer enroute to a 25-16 win.
MacGregor led Dartmouth in hitting with 12 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Kendall Houston (Austin, Texas) was the Big Green's top setter with 22 as she also added nine digs to lead her team.
Dartmouth will play two matches on Friday at the Army Invitational, a morning match against nationally-ranked USC before an afternoon matchup with Hartford.
