HANOVER, N.H - The 40th Dartmouth Relays come to end today as the Big Green men's track and field team took the team title with 114 points, while Boston College won the women's title with 80 points with Dartmouth taking second with 73 points.
Dartmouth had multiple winners throughout the day, including senior Ben True (North Yarmouth, Maine) who was competing in his first ever indoor event. He won the 3000 meters in 8:05.55, finishing ahead of Nate Jenkins of the Saucony Track Club. Junior John Schroeder (Nashua, N.H.) wasn't far behind as he crossed the line in fourth with a time of 8:26.80.
The Big Green had the top four finishers in the 600-meter run with senior Trevor Middleton (New Orleans, La.) taking the top spot with a time of 1:55.92. The four other finishers from second to fourth was sophomore Dwayne Alexis (Brooklyn, N.Y.), freshman Brendan Norris (Beverly, Mass.) and sophomore Ben Bramhall (Plymouth, Mass.).
In the field events, Dartmouth men took home victories in the pole vault and long jump. Junior Ken DiCairano (New Rochelle, N.Y.) was the top finisher in the pole vault with a vault of 4.42m (14-06), while senior Michael Poppler (Metairie, La.) jumped 6.79m (22-03.25) to win the long jump as the favorite going into the Dartmouth Relays. Junior Ted Lesher (Upper Saddle River, N.J.), who also was the favorite in the triple jump, won the event with a jump of 14m (45-11.25).
On the women's side, Big Green freshman Alyson Pickett (Summerland, B.C.) won the women's high jump with a leap of 1.63m (5-04.25). Senior Emily Daly (Hopkinton, Mass.) took second in the weight throw with a toss of 16.75m (54-11.5), finishing behind Melissa Kurzdorfer competing unattached with a throw of 17.22m (56-06). Daly also threw the shotput and came in third with a throw of 42-08.75, while sophomore Christina Alexander (Austin, Texas) took fourth after a toss of 41-00.25.
Senior Natalie Todd-Zebell (Portland, Ore.) competed in the women's pole vault and finished in second with jump of 11-11.75, behind Rita Ciambra from UNH with 12-05.50.
The lone Dartmouth Relays record that was broken this afternoon was Porshe Giddings from Northeastern set a meet record in the women's 60m dash with 7.63. The old record was set by Michele Berger from Williams in 2004 with a time of 7.64.
In other finishes, sophomore Alexandra Tanner (Baltimore, Md.) and freshman Zawadi Rowe (Lanham, Md.) took third and fourth, respectively, in the 400 meters. Gift Okankwu cross the line first at 59.20 with Tanner behind at 60.15 and Rowe with a time of 60.45.
In the shot put, sophomore Christopher Alexander (Austin, Texas) threw 14.37 (47-01.75) for fifth and senior Lee Murtha (Pierpoint, Ohio) threw 13.63m (44--08.75) for a sixth-place finish. Sophomore David Irving (Manchester, N.H.) was fourth in the weight throw with 17.30m (56-09.25). Senior Julian Thomas (San Antonio, Texas) and sophomore Tyler Ford (Penfield, N.Y.) were fifth and sixth in the 400m with times of 50.61 and 50.99, respectively.
Boston College won the 4 x 400 meter relay with a time of 3:27.28, Dartmouth was third with 3:29.55 which increased its team lead in the meet over second place UMass-Lowell by 104 to 47. In the women's distance medley relay, Dartmouth was fourth with a time of 12:50.71.
Dartmouth freshman Marissa Greco had the top finish for Big Green in the mile finishing in eighth place with a time of 5:16.76. Former Lebanon High School standout Anna Cioffredi, now running for Boston College was fourth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.92.
The Big Green women came in third in the final race of the day, the 4x400 relay but it wasn't enough as Boston College won the Dartmouth Relays with 80 points, edging out Dartmouth, which finished with 73 points.
