No. 3 Women's Hockey Settles for Tie Against Quinnipiac

HANOVER, N.H. ? The third-ranked Dartmouth women's hockey team had a 42-16 shot advantage over Quinnipiac, but the Big Green couldn't find the net after the first period and had to settle for 1-1 tie with the Bobcats on Friday night at Thompson Arena.

For Dartmouth (8-4-2, 6-2-2 ECAC Hockey), sophomore Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.) had the lone goal for the Big Green, while junior Mariel Lacina (London, Ont.) made 15 stops in net to earn the tie.

For Quinnipiac (3-17-2, 2-6-2 ECAC Hockey), Trudy Reyns posted the only goal for the Bobcats on the power play in the second period, but the star of the game for both sides was netminder Nanna Holm-Glaas who pushed aside 41 shots.

Dartmouth struck first with 6:39 left in the first period after an ice delay pushed the game back about 45 minutes. Trunzo netted her seventh of the season, tying her with Kennedy for the team lead. Junior Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass.) found senior co-captain Shannon Bowman (Leamington, Ont.) on the doorstep, but her shot was stoned by Holm-Glaas. Trunzo then cleaned up the rebound and beat Holm-Glaas over the right pad to give Dartmouth a 1-0 lead.

The Bobcats got back into the game with a power play on the first opportunity for Quinnipiac on the man advantage. The Bobcats got a 5-on-3 advantage and Reyns took advantage with her second tally of the year. She fired a simple shot from the left point, the puck had eyes through traffic and beat Lacina to tie the score at 1-1 with 9:38 remaining in the second frame.

Both teams had chances in the final 25 minutes of play, but neither could find the net. Dartmouth had a power play opportunity in overtime and Holm-Glaas was ready for the Big Green. Dartmouth peppered the net and crashed the net, but didn't score.

Each team had three opportunities on the power play during a clean game. Dartmouth went without a man-advantage goal on its chances, but Quinnipiac capitalized on its first power play of the night.

Dartmouth will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as Princeton comes to Hanover for a 4 p.m. face off at Thompson Arena
