HANOVER, N.H. - Senior Dan Freeman (Chatsworth, Calif.) made it to the round of 16 at the Wilson/ITA Regionals, but was beaten in his second match of the day, while sophomore Michael Laser (Glencoe, Ill.) fell in his first match of the day.
The day started early at 8 a.m. and Freeman was matched up against John Wong of Cornell. Wong is the top seed and the No. 1 player in the region. That did not stop Freeman from playing a statement match. He won the first set 7-5 and dropped the second set 6-2. He then went into overdrive and powered Wong off the court 6-2.
Often the problem with winning a big match is that there is a let down in the second match. This was the case as Dan dropped his round of 16 match to Andy Gauthier of Cornell, 6-4, 6-1.
Gauthier made the round of 16 after upsetting Laser, who had come through the qualifier to have a terrific tournament. Gauthier came out on top in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3.
After Freeman's second match, he and Laser went after a doubles win but came up short 9-8 to a pair from Brown.
The tournament continues Monday and Tuesday but unfortunately without the Big Green. The next event for the Green will be at Harvard Oct. 30 - Nov. 1.
