HANOVER, N.H. - ? Junior Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass.) carried the fourth-seeded Dartmouth women's hockey team with a pair of goals as the Big Green forced a decisive third game with a 2-1 win over Colgate in the second game of the best-of-three series.
For Dartmouth (17-9-4), Parsons netted two goals to give her five in the series, while senior co-captain Shannon Bowman (Leamington, Ont.), senior Julia Bronson (Arlington, Va.) and sophomore Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.) were each credited with assists. Senior Carli Clemis (Taber, Alta.) rebounded from last night's game with 27 saves between the pipes to earn her seventh postseason victory in a Big Green uniform.
For Colgate (19-13-3), Sam Hunt provided the only offense with her 14th of the season with the assist going to Clancy Todd. Kimberly Sass got her second-straight start and made 27 saves herself, including 11 in the second period alone, in the loss.
The Big Green did what it needed to do to gain confidence down 1-0 in the series with a quick score in the first period. Parsons gave that to Dartmouth with a score just 16 seconds into the game. Bowman skated the puck into the zone and took a shot that fluttered off a defender and came to Parsons at the end line. She then wristed a shot across the crease and the puck went off Sass' pads and into the net for the 1-0 lead.
Colgate got some momentum back with 11:23 left in the period as Hunt scored her second of the series to knot the game at 1-1. Todd put a shot on net that Clemis couldn't cover and Hunt was there for clean up duty to get the momentum back to the Raiders.
After a scoreless second period, Parsons scored the game-winner with 13:39 left in the game to push her total to two scores on the afternoon and five goals in the series. With the six points in the two games, she has moved up to No. 4 in postseason goals. She is now tied with Gillian Apps '09 for fourth with 10 postseason goals.
Trunzo was able to skate past the defense and behind the net and she found an open Bronson, who fired a shot on net. The puck went wide to the left, but Parsons was there for the tip in to give Dartmouth the 2-1 lead, which the Big Green didn't let slip from their fingers.
Dartmouth held a 29-28 advantage in shots with both teams failed on multiple power play opportunities. The Big Green finished the game without scoring on four chances, while the Raiders went scoreless on five opportunities.
The Big Green will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. as Dartmouth and Colgate play the third and deciding game with hopes of moving to Cambridge for the ECAC Hockey Semifinals next weekend. Harvard swept Cornell in its first round series to host next weekend.
