FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Dartmouth softball team played its final game at the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament on Sunday. Despite notching six runs in the top of the fifth it was not enough as FGCU took the win, 12-8.
Dartmouth put two runs across in the top of the first but Florida Gulf Coast came right back with seven of its own in the bottom of the frame.The Eagles then put across two in the second and third to take a 11-2 lead.
The Big Green stormed back in the fifth after Christy Autin (Harwood Heights, Ill.) singled to left field and classmate Nikki Yee (Martinez, Calif.) singled through the right side. Both runners advanced on a throwing error before Ashley Gleason's (Costa Mesa, Calif.) singled up the middle scored Autin. Leigha Clarkson (Perris, Calif.) reached on a fielder's choice as Gleason was out on the play. Alyssa Parker (Spring Valley, Calif.) singled through the left side to score Yee. A walk was issued to Molly Khalil (Seal Beach, Calif.) to load the bases as FGCU changed pitchers. Audrey Kolodziej (Morton Grove, Ill.) then singled down the left field line to plate Clarkson and Parker. Kirsten Costello (Windsor, N.Y.) tripled to center field for her first extra-base hit of the season, scoring both Kolodziej and Khalil.
The Eagles put one more across in the bottom of the seventh as Dartmouth was unable to plate anymore.The Big Green began the game with freshman Hillary Barker (Duvall, Wash.) in the circle. She was relieved by classmate Kat Hicks (Templeton, Calif.) who went 3.2 innings before Devin Lindsay (Whittier, Calif.) closed out the game.
Dartmouth will be back in action on March 7th and 8th, traveling to Maryland for a Round Robin against Maryland, Gardner-Webb and Manhattan.
