AMHERST, Mass. - The Dartmouth women's track and field team won five events at the UMass Spring Meet to earn 187 points and finish 31 points ahead of New Hampshire, who came in second.
Senior Emily Daly (Hopkinton, Mass.) once again dominated the field in the shot put and hammer throw, taking home first place in both events. Her throw of 56.13 meters (184-02) was just over seven meters ahead of the second place finisher, while in the shot she finished with a toss of 14.56 meters (47-09.25).
Fellow senior Natalie Todd-Zebell (Portland, Ore.) took the top spot by clearing the bar at 3.85 meters (12.07.5) and junior Sarah Klassen (Peterborough, Ont.) also finished in first in the high jump. She cleared the bar at 1.7 meters (5-07). The final first place finisher came in the 400 meter dash as sophomore Alexandra Tanner (Baltimore, Md.) crossed the line at 57.01. She was followed close behind by junior Natalie Stoll (Portland, Ore.), who came in second with a time of 57.32.
Other top finishers for the Big Green was sophomore Lauren Campfield (Temecula, Calif.) who took home second place in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:43.02. Freshman Amy Schuman (Lee, N.H.) ran her best race in her first season, finishing in second place in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:15.87.
In the discus, it was sophomore Christina Alexander (Austin, Texas) finishing in second with a throw of 45.28 (148-07), while teammate Anna Niedbala took home third with a toss of 43.95 (144-02).
The Big Green women also competed in the final day of the 114th Penn Relays and the team of freshman Christina Supino (Windham, N.H.), senior Caitlin Cunningham (Simsbury, Conn.), senior Marcy Van Arnam (Syracuse, N.Y.) and sophomore Andrea Imhof (San Francisco, Calif.) placed in 11th in the 4 x 800 relay on Saturday. Their time of 9:02.31 was a season's best and qualified the Big Green for ECACs.
Dartmouth will take a couple of weeks off and be back in action at Outdoor Heps on May 9-10 at Penn.
