HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth men's track and field team will head to Philadelphia for the Outdoor Heptagonal Championships this weekend as the Big Green men look to improve on last year's fourth place finish.
Tim Wunderlich (Westminster, Md.) returns to the Heps looking to repeat as the decathlon champion. He finished third in the heptathlon at the Indoor Heps this past season. "Tim is the defending champion in the decathlon and he would like to make his final Heps a memorable one," said Dartmouth coach Barry Harwick. "He came from way back to win in 2008, a sign of what a great competitor he is. He will also compete in the javelin to try and score some points for the team there as well; no easy task with the logistical challenges we'll face this week."
The Big Green also look to get points from sprinter Muhammed Abdul-Shakoor (Stone Mountain, Ga.). Abdul-Shakoor is coming off a win in the 100-meter dash at UMass almost two weeks ago. His fastest 100-meter time of 10.88 ranks fifth overall this season heading into the Heps.
Ted Lesher (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) has had a solid season in the jumping events. Lesher comes into the weekend ranked fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 49-0.5. He is coming off a win in that event at the UMass Spring Meet. Lesher is listed to compete in the high hurdles as well this weekend, where he has the eighth-best time with 15.17.
Dartmouth hopes to get points out of Chris Zablocki (Essex, Conn.) in multiple events. The distance runner is ranked fifth in the steeplechase with a time of 9:12.03. He ran 30:54 in the 10k, the seventh best time this season for Ivy competitors. Teammate Glenn Randall (Collbran, Colo.) is ranked fourth in the same event (30:12.09).
The Heps Championships will be hosted by Penn Saturday and Sunday. Fans can follow live action online at www.hepstrack.com.
