HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth sophomore Heather Roland finished among the top 10 golfers at the completion of the first round of the Dartmouth Invitational at the Hanover Country Club on Saturday, leading the Big Green to a tie for sixth on the day with a 323. Roland shot a seven-over par 77 (38-39) in the round to pace the squad and tie for ninth individually.
Dartmouth had two of the five golfers that scored an eagle in the round, with Roland posting one and freshman Julie Campbell — who is playing as an individual — scoring the other.
Another Big Green individual entry, freshman Colleen Carroll, scored three birdies. Only three other golfers in the 20-team tournament had four on the day.
Freshman Emily Hyman had the second-best score for the Dartmouth team, shooting an 81. Sophomore Marietta Smith carded an 82, junior captain Katie Gulemi an 83 and sophomore Kathleen Quirk an 87.
Carroll finished the day tied for 14th with a 78, while Campbell shot an 82 and freshman Amber Hardemann had an 87.
Towson leads the field with a 311, with Fairfield just three strokes back and Brown four. Three golfers are tied for individual top honors at 75 — Fairfield's Kristen MacDonald, Hartford's Sarah Sideranko and Boston College's Eunice Kim.
The tournament will finish up tomorrow with the first group teeing off at 7:50 a.m.
