HANOVER, N.H. — The Dartmouth men's golf team is just four strokes behind co-leaders Yale and Central Connecticut State after the first round of the Dartmouth Invitational, led by freshman James Pleat and his even-par 71 which ties him for fourth. The Big Green as a team shot 15-over (299), while the Bulldogs and CCSU posted a 295.
After Pleat (who had one of the two eagles in the first round), senior Dave Putney carded a three-over 74, followed by sophomore Peter Williamson with a five-over 76. Both junior Davis Mullany and sophomore Teddy Overton shot 78 (+7) on the day.
Dartmouth had two teams participate in the event, and the second group fared nearly as well, placing seventh with a 306 (+22). Freshman Andrew Jankowski, who parred 15 of the 18 holes, had the second-best score of any Big Green golfer in the event with a 73 (+2) to tie for ninth, while fellow rookie Owen Lynch entered the clubhouse with a 74 (+3) and tied for 15th with Putney. Sophomore Braden Long had a seven-over 78, while seniors Dan Egan and Shunsuke Aonuma posted an 81 and an 85, respectively.
Fordham's Jason Del Rosso was the low scorer on the day with a sparkling four-under 67. The Rams ended the day in sixth-place however, two strokes behind Dartmouth. Boston College and Sacred Heart tied for third at 297, two strokes off the lead.
The tournament will conclude on Sunday morning with tee times starting at 8 a.m.
