Men's Tennis Wins Two on First Day of 2010 Season

HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth men's tennis team defeated both Temple and Sacred Heart today at the Boss Tennis Center to open the 2010 season at 2-0.

Against Temple, the Big Green rebounded in singles after losing the doubles point, dropping two of the three matches, to win all six singles matches for the 6-1 team victory.

Junior Chris Ho led the way, getting the team match even with his 6-0, 6-1 victory at sixth singles. Stephen Greif and Xander Centenari put the Green up 3-1 with straight set wins and Michael Laser clinched the victory with a second set tie break win, 6-1, 7-6 (4) at number two. Curtis Roby won what looked like a routine match, 6-2,6-4,but took considerable effort and time at fourth singles.

At number one, senior Dan Freeman dropped the first set to Filip Rams of Temple in a tiebreaker, but came back to win the second set 6-4 and the match tiebreak, 10-6.

In the second match of the day versus Sacred Heart, Dartmouth came up with two doubles wins to win the team point en route to a 5-2 victory.

In singles, Centenari stepping up to the #2 spot won a convincing straight set victory followed by fellow freshman Alex de Chatellus putting the team within a point of victory. Co Captain Jeff Friedman put the Green in the win column with another straight set win.

Freshman Mike Jacobs continued the freshman win streak by edging his opponent 12-10 in a match time break.

The Big Green faces Temple again tomorrow, Sunday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m.
