HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth (6-14, 4-8 ECAC0) men's hockey picked up another league win and two important points with a 4-3 victory over Quinnipiac (13-11-2, 7-7-0 ECAC) on Friday night in Thompson Arena. The Big Green exacted revenge for an earlier loss this season to the Bobcats.
With three minutes gone in the opening period, the Big Green took an early-lead off a brother tag-team. Nick Walsh (Shannonville, Ont.) brought the puck down, shooting on Quinnipiac netminder Dan Clarke. The rebound was set up perfectly for trailing younger brother, Dustin who shot into the empty net for his sixth goal of the season.
Unfortunately the lead didn't hold as the Bobcats came back with almost the exact same play with Eric Lampe buried Jean-Marc Beaudoin's rebound.
The younger Walsh gave his team the lead again at 6:55 with an incredibly athletic goal for his second of the night. Nick Walsh brought the puck around behind the net passing to Evan Stephens (Bessemer, Mich.) at the right faceoff circle. Stephens passed quickly across ice to Walsh who dove forward and slapped the puck in for the goal.
The visitors tied things up midway through the second period off a goal by Loren Barron but Stephens got his team out of the jam with a power play goal at 7:03. Doug Jones (Marietta, Ga.) and Adam Estoclet (Orono, Minn.) assisted. After several interesting plays that resulted in five players being sent to the boxes, the Bobcats knotted the score again at 6:10 when Russell Goodman lit the lamp.
The two teams each began the third period with a player in the box so there was no extra advantage to start off. Dartmouth replaced starter James Mello (Rehoboth, Mass.) in net with Jody O'Neill (Nepean, Ont.) for a boost of energy. Mello had 20 saves up to that point.
With 4:27 left in the game Estoclet gave his team the goal needed for the win. Peter Boldt (Greenwich, Conn.) took a shot that was saved out to Scott Fleming (Plainfield, Ont.). Fleming drew Clarke out of the net as Estoclet came up behind to sneak the puck past the netminder for the game winner.
O'Neill got the win and finished with 16 saves while Clarke had 16 for Quinnipiac.
Dartmouth will be back in action tomorrow in a 4:00 pm matchup with Ivy rival Princeton.
