New Year, New Hope
• Dartmouth finished 2009 on a four-game losing streak, but with three home games among its first four of 2010, the Big Green have a good opportunity to turn the season around.
• Those four losses gradually got worse in terms of final deficit, going from eight points at Lehigh, to 10 at UNH, to 19 against Colgate and finally 22 at Quinnipiac.
• To keep things in perspective, last year's Big Green squad started 2-13 before finishing 7-6 — all 13 of those games came in Ivy play.
• No less than eight Dartmouth players have led the team in scoring this year. The latest was freshman center Matt LaBove with 13 points at Quinnipiac on Dec. 30.
• LaBove was the only player for Dartmouth to score in double figures, the sixth time in 12 games the Green have had just one member tally at least 10 points, including each of the last three.
• LaBove also grabbed six boards, the fifth time he has led the team in rebounding. No other teammate hauled in more than two as Dartmouth was outrebounded by the Bobcats, 42-22.
• Junior Clive Weeden was solid off the bench, scoring eight points by hitting all four of his field goal attempts.
Series vs. Bucknell
• Dartmouth has waited a long time to exact its revenge against the Bison. Bucknell won the only meeting between the two schools — nearly 105 years ago on Feb. 27, 1905, 23-12.
• That Big Green loss came in the first 20-win campaign in the program's history as Dartmouth went 20-10-1.
• You probably are wondering about that tie, aren't you? It is the only one in the Big Green annals and came just 11 days prior to the game against Bucknell, a 16-16 deadlock versus Minnesota.
• Dartmouth is 71-119 against current Patriot League schools.
Scouting the Bison
• Since a three-game winning streak in November, Bucknell has fallen on hard times with just two wins in its last 10 contests.
• Dartmouth and the Bison have had just one common opponent thus far in Loyola (Md.), and both teams lost to the Greyhounds — the Green by 17, Bucknell by six just last week.
• The Bison have lost to their other two Ivy League opponents this year, dropping a 73-59 game at Columbia and suffering a gut-wrenching 104-98 overtime loss at Cornell.
• Last time out, Bucknell battled tough at home against a good Richmond squad, battling back from a 15-point deficit to just three late in the second half before falling by nine, 59-50.
• Only only one Bison is scoring at least 10 points a game — junor guard Darryl Shazier at 11.3. Three other players, however, average at at least nine points.
• Bucknell is hitting over seven three-pointers a game and is also a good free throw shooting team at 71.7 percent.
• Center Mike Muscala is the presence in the post with 28 blocks (doubling the rest of the team), but is just fourth on the team in rebounding. Forward Patrick Behan snags 5.4 boards per contest.
The Great Eight
In the first 12 games, Dartmouth has had no less than eight players lead the team in scoring. The most recent addition to the group was freshman Matt LaBove, who put up 13 points in a 73-51 loss at Quinnipiac on Dec. 30. Sophomore Jabari Trotter has topped the Big Green three times, while senior Robby Pride and sophomore David Rufful have done so twice each.
Trotter, Kouna Return to the Court
One good thing to happen at Quinnipiac on Dec. 30 was the return of sophomores Jabari Trotter and Herve Kouna to the floor for the Big Green. Trotter, who played a team-high 27 minutes in the game and is Dartmouth's leading scorer, had sat out the previous two games, while Kouna had missed five contests. Both absences were due to injuries.
