PRINCETON, N.J. – For the second-straight night, the Dartmouth women's hockey team could not hold a third period lead as Princeton scored two goals in the final six minutes to send the Big Green home with a 4-3 loss on Saturday.
For Dartmouth (6-8-2, 4-6-1 ECAC, 3-3-0 Ivy), junior Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.) led the way with a pair of goals, while senior co-captain Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass.) added a goal and an assist. Sophomore Jenna Hobeika (Alpine, N.J.) recorded a career-high two points on two assists. Senior Mariel Lacina (London, Ont.) got her second-straight start and took the loss, making a season high 37 saves, which was two off of her career high.
Princeton (9-9-3, 7-4-3 ECAC, 4-2-0 Ivy) got two scores from Heather Landry and both of her goals tied the game in the second and third periods. Paula Romanchuk also posted two points with the game-winning goal and an assist, while Charissa Stadnyk collected two assists in the game. Rachel Weber earned the victory, making 23 stops between the pipes.
Dartmouth got the scoring started in the second period as Trunzo on the power play, netted her first of two goals to give the Big Green a 1-0 lead with 12:18 left in the second. Assists on the play went to Hobeika and Parsons. Parsons has collected 10 assists this year, which leads the Big Green.
Landry got Princeton back in the game with her first of the night on the power play to make it 1-1 with 11:35 remaining. The assists were given to Stadnyk and Sasha Sherry and the Tigers erased the first of two Dartmouth leads on the afternoon.
Princeton earned its first lead of the game with 2:42 remaining in the second period as Laura Martindale gave her team a 2-1 lead. Melanie Wallace and Romanchuk helped out on the score and were given assists.
Dartmouth knotted the score at 2-2 in the second period as Trunzo scored the second of her two on the afternoon. The goal came with 33 seconds left in the middle period and the Big Green took the momentum into the locker room.
Dartmouth took its second lead of the contest with 10:32 left in the game as Parsons scored her 10th of the season with the assist going to freshman Lisa Berreman (Eagan, Minn.). Berremen was credited with her second assist of the season.
Princeton fired right back 2:24 later to take tie the score at 3-3 on Landry's second of the night with the assists going to Julie Johnson and Stadnyk. The Tigers took back the lead with 2:45 remaining in the final frame at 4-3 and never looked back. Romanchuk scored the game-winner with the lone assist going to Danielle DiCesare. Princeton skated away with its seventh conference win of the year and the important two points.
The Tigers dominated the Big Green in shots with a 41-27 advantage. Each school tallied a power play goal. Dartmouth had three chances with the extra skater and Princeton earned five opportunities. For the first time this season, the Big Green has dropped two-straight games and is winless in its last four games.
Dartmouth will look to get back on track next weekend as the Big Green returns to Thompson Arena to start an eight-game homestand, beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday night against Colgate.
