ITHACA, N.Y. - Junior striker Aly O'Dea (Irvine, Calif.) led the Dartmouth women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Cornell in the season finale, sending the Big Green to a second place finish in the Ivy League.
Dartmouth closed out the season with a record of 7-7-2 and 4-2-1 in the Ivy League, good for a tie for second place with Princeton. The Big Green's tough non-conference schedule paid off down the stretch as the team was steeled for a strong finish, going unbeaten in its last five games and ending on a four-game winning streak. Cornell dropped to 6-8-1, 1-5-1 Ivy with the loss.
"This result was fantastic for us and it was great to see our team finish so strong with a five game unbeaten streak," said head coach Angie Hind.
O'Dea's game-winner — a shot to the far post — came in the 67th minute of a game in which Dartmouth outshot Cornell, 15-9. Freshman Chrissy Lozier (Fairfield, Conn.) recorded the assist on the play, tallying a point for the third consecutive game.
Though Dartmouth held the clear advantage in shots, Cornell took three corner kicks to the Green's one.
Junior Colleen Hogan (Houston, Texas) picked up the shutout win in goal with three saves and a strong effort from the backline of Sarah Bromley (La Jolla, Calif.), Grace Best (Downingtown, Pa.), Erin Fleischli (San Mateo, Calif.) and Aurelia Solomon (Washington, D.C.).
It marked the final collegiate game for Dartmouth's five seniors: Bromley, Katie Davis, Melisa Krnjaic, Peyton Tata and Meagan Tibbo.
"I give so much of the credit to our finish to our senior class," said Hind. "They were tremendous role models who led this team in the right direction and I am so pleased for and proud of them."
