HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth men's basketball senior co-captain
Ronnie Dixon suffered a broken right (shooting) hand during practice on Monday prior to the game against Drake last night, and is expected to miss approximately six weeks.
Dixon had played in each of the first 10 games before sitting out the 67-59 victory at Drake on Tuesday evening, starting five games. The point guard, who led the team in scoring as a junior, is averaging 7.0 points in 23.3 minutes per game this season while hitting 10-of-25 (.400) three-point attempts. His 34 assists lead the team and placed him among the top 10 in the Ivy League at the time of his injury. Dixon had also led the team in scoring in two of the previous three games, including a career-high 21 points in a 71-68 triumph over Army on Dec. 11.
“It's unfortunate whenever there's an injury that occurs, but it's really painful when it happens to a senior and a captain who was looking to have a greater impact on the development and rebuilding of our program than what will be the case now,” said head coach
Paul Cormier. “He was certainly an integral part of the success that we have enjoyed so far, and we are hopeful we will have him back for the last part of the Ivy League season. There is no question that he will keep himself in good condition and do whatever he can to come back and help us. In the meantime, he will be at our practices and on our bench helping the younger players. I really feel bad for our program, but even more so for this terrific leader.”
Dartmouth next plays at Bucknell on Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. and will be in search of its first consecutive victories since beating both Penn and Princeton on the road on Feb. 20-21, 2009.
