HANOVER, NH – Sophomore Priscilla Trojano (W. Bridgewater, Mass.) won the pentathlon with 3431 points after an exciting race in 800 meters as she led the Dartmouth women's track and field team at the Ivy Indoor Heptagonal Championships.
Going into the final event of the pentathlon, Trojano was trailing Monique Roberts of Columbia by 262 points with the 800 meters as the last race. All Roberts had to do was stay within 20 seconds of Trojano, but the Dartmouth sophomore had other plans. Trojano came through with a personal best time of 2:22.45 to overtake the lead and win the pentathlon by just 16 points as she finished 23 seconds ahead of Roberts.
She also took second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.11 seconds and finished below 500 points in one event during the competition. Freshman Maggie Fleming (Lincoln, Mass.) was Dartmouth's next top placer in the event with 3173 points.
In the field events this afternoon, freshman Emmaline Berg (Holliston, Mass.) took fifth in the shot put in her first Heps Championship. She finished with a toss of 13.69 meters (44-11). In the 5000 meters, senior Monica Hernandez (Dallas, Texas) finished ninth in the only track final of the day.
Brown and Princeton are tied after the first day with 31 points apiece, while Harvard is in second with 30. Dartmouth sits in sixth with 10 points.
A reminder that admission for Heps is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 14 and tickets can be purchased at the entrance of Leverone Field House.
