HANOVER, N.H. - Freshman Emmaline Berg (Holliston, Mass.) and sophomore Christina Supino (Windham, N.H.) both qualified for ECACs in their respective events to lead the Dartmouth women's track and field team at the Dartmouth Indoor Classic on Saturday.
Berg took first in the shot put with a toss of 13.87 meters (45-06.25), while Supino finished second in the 1000 meters, but was able to qualify at 2:55.70.
Dartmouth also won five other events during the classic. Senior captain Natalie Stoll (Portland, Ore.) won two individual events. She placed in the top spot in the 400 meters, beating out teammate Alexandra Tanner (Baltimore, Md.) with a time of 57.60 seconds. Tanner took second at 58.73 seconds. Stoll, once again, placed over Tanner, this time in the 200m dash. She crossed the line just 26 tenths of a second ahead of her competition at 26.10 seconds, with Tanner clocking in at 26.36 seconds. The Big Green's 4 x 400 meter relay team also earned a win with a time of 3:55.99
Junior Malina Simmers (Anchorage, Alaska) narrowly missed out on an ECAC qualifier in the triple jump, but was able to win the event with a mark of 11.73 meters (38-06). Freshman Karla Verkouw (Lancaster, Pa.) and senior Hannah Raila (Medford, Mass.)
each earned a win in the pole vault as both cleared the bar at 3.35 meters (10-11.75). Rounding out the field events was senior Sarah Klassen (Peterborough, Ont.) took second in the high jump at 1.63 meters (5-04.25), but first among collegiate competitors as Klassen finished behind Becky Christenson, who competed unattached.
Dartmouth will be back in action next weekend as the Big Green travels to Boston for the Valentine's Invitational, with the two-day event beginning on Feb. 12 at Boston University.
