HANOVER, NH - The 38th-ranked Dartmouth women's tennis team concluded a successful 3-1 spring trip on the west coast with a 5-2 win over Cal State Northridge Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Big Green improved to 13-2 on the year and opens Ivy League play on April 2 as Dartmouth hosts Cornell at the Boss Tennis Center.
The Big Green was able to recover after dropping the doubles point. Junior Molly Scott (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) and senior Mary Beth Winingham (Carmel, Ind.) earned the only win in doubles with a close 9-7 victory at the top spot.
After dropping the doubles point, Dartmouth fired back with wins in five of the six singles matches. Scott got things started with a straight set win at the No. 1 position. Freshman Sarah Leonard (Norwalk, Conn.) continued her impressive first campaign with a two-set win, which took a tie-breaking win in the second set. Winingham went to three sets and after losing the first set, she earned the win with back-to-back 6-4 set victories.
Senior captain Jess Adler (Winnetka, Ill.) and junior Ryan Reichel (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) rounded out the wins for the Big Green, including a three-set marathon from Reichel. She went to a tie-break in the first two sets, winning the first, but dropping the second. Her and Northridge's Maria Pistalu almost went to a third break, but Reichel came through with a close 7-5 win in the last set.
