Men's Tennis Drops Close Match to LMU at Betty Werner Cup

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The doubles point proved to be a pivotal moment in the match for the Dartmouth men's tennis team as the Big Green dropped the point and the match to Loyola Marymount by the score of 4-3 on Wednesday at the second annual Betty Warner Cup. The Big Green drops to 9-5 on the season.

The new team of junior captain Curtis Roby (New York, N.Y.) and junior Eric Schlobohm (Moraga, Calif.) stepped up to win at the No. 3 slot with an 8-5 victory. Unfortunately, senior Dan Freeman (Chatsworth, Calif.) and sophomore Michael Laser (Glencoe, Ill.) dropped a hard-fought 8-6 match to drop the team point.

Sophomore Chris Ho (Los Altos, Calif.) and senior captain Jeff Friedman (Westport, Conn.) continued their solid play with straight set victories. Laser played great to secure a point at the No, 2 spot, but it was not enough as the Big Green went down 3-4 and even it's spring trip record at 2-2.

The Betty Werner Cup is named in honor of Betty Werner, the late LMU Senior Associate Athletics Director who lost her battle with cancer in August 2008.

Dartmouth finishes its west coast spring trip today with visit to UC Santa Barbara for 3 p.m. start.
