CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. — The Dartmouth women's golf team began the final round in 16th place, and that is where it ended the Cincinnati Spring Invitational, finishing the three-round tournament with a 989. Illinois won the 18-team field with an 891 (+29), 12 strokes ahead of Stetson.
Junior captain Katie Gulemi (Fairfield, Conn.) produced the low round for Dartmouth in two of the three rounds, including the final round on Saturday with an 82 (+10), tying for 53rd place with a 240 (+24).
The other four competing for the team score were all clumped between 249 and 254, with sophomore Kathleen Quirk (Kansas City, Mo.) scoring the 80-84-85=249 (+33) to tie for 75th. Freshman Colleen Carroll (Bettendorf, Iowa) was two strokes off Quirk's pace with an 82-83-86=251 (+35), sophomore Marietta Smith (Mount Prospect, Ill.) another two back at 81-87-85=253 (+37), and sophomore Heather Roland (Newton Square, Pa.) posting a 78-87-89=254 (+38).
Freshmen Julie Campbell (Bozeman, Mont.) and Emily Hyman (Chappaqua, N.Y.) competed as individuals, carding nearly identical scores of 87-89-86=262 (+46) and 87-90-86=263 (+47), respectively.
Stetson's Alex Buelow held off the field to take medalist honors with an even-par 216 (72-69-75), beating Hailey Koschmann of Illinois by two strokes.
The women will take off a week before participating in the Dartmouth Invitational at Cape Cod on April 10-11.
