PRINCETON, N.J. — Sophomore Teddy Overton (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) had the finest first two rounds for the Big Green at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday, shooting a one-over 72 followed by a four-over 75 to finish the day in a tie for 16th at five-over par. Aside from Overton and fellow sophomore Peter Williamson (Hanover, N.H.), however, Dartmouth struggled with the field on the first day of play as the Green are last in the 15-team field with a 312-308—620 (+52). Harvard holds a slim one-stroke lead at 14-over par (288-294—582) over Yale.
Williamson matched Overton in the first round with a 72, then was just one stroke behind him in the second round, tying for 20th at the end of the day at six-over par. Others participating for Dartmouth included freshman James Pleat (Nashua, N.H.) (84-77—161, 72nd), freshman Andrew Elkins (Elkins, N.H.) (84-83—167, 77th) and senior Dave Putney (Unionville, Conn.) (89-80—169, 78th).
Yale's Tom McCarthy has a sizeable lead heading into the final round as the only golfer under par with a 67-70—137 (-5). Chance Pipitone of Penn and Brendan Kelly of Villanova both shot even par at 142 to tie for second.
The final round begins tomorrow morning.
