SUFFERN, N.Y. — Junior captain Katie Gulemi (Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman Colleen Carroll (Bettendorf, Iowa) each finished at 14-over par to lead the Dartmouth women's golf team to an 11th-place finish at the Roar-ee Invitational hosted by Columbia at the Spook Rock Golf Course. After scoring a 324 (+36) on Friday, the Big Green improved by a stroke this afternoon for a 647 (+71).
Harvard had the low score among the 14 participating teams with a 27-over 603 for the two rounds.
After Gulemi and Carroll shot a six-over 78 and eight-over 80, respectively, in the first round on Friday, the duo reversed scores in today's round to be two of 10 golfers to tie for 25th.
Also participating for the Big Green were sophomore Marietta Smith (Mount Prospect, Ill.) who tied for 55th with an 83-82—165 (+21), sophomore Heather Roland (Newton Square, Pa.) just one stroke behind Smith with 83s each day to finish 57th, and sophomore Kathleen Quirk (Kansas City, Mo.) who improved nine strokes in the second round to place 67th at 33-over par.
Carroll was the leading player in the field on the par-three holes, shooting one-under par for the tournament. She also scored more birdies than any other Big Green golfer in the 36 holes with five.
Columbia's Nancy Shon and Harvard's Mia Kabasakalis each finished at four-over par, but Shon won the playoff for medalist honors in the 75-player field.
Dartmouth will play next weekend at Baltusrol for the Ivy Championships.
