SPRINGFIELD, N.J. — Led by sophomore Peter Williamson (Hanover, N.H.), who shot an even-par 70 in the final round, the Dartmouth men's golf team finished the Ivy League Men's Golf Championships at the famed lower course at Baltusrol Golf Course in fourth place with a three-round total of 902. The Big Green, which entered the day in sixth place in the team standings, were just 12 strokes off the pace as Columbia won its third consecutive Ivy title.
While Columbia won the team title, Penn's Scott Williams won a playoff against the Lions' Clark Granum to win individual medalist honors. Williamson, who won a three-hole playoff to win the Ivy Championships last year as a freshman, tied for fourth with a 217 (+7), three strokes behind Williams and Granum.
Williamson came on strong on the back nine after bogeying two holes on the front. Despite bogeying the 10th hole, Williamson birdied three of the next four holes to get back to even on the day, then parred out the final four holes to complete his round.
Junior co-captain Davis Mullany (Great Barrington, Mass.) posted his best round of the tournament with a two-over 72 on Sunday. Like Williamson, he birdied three holes and was one-under for the round with four holes to play. But he bogeyed each of 15, 16 and 17 before making par on 18 to finish the tournament with a 227 (+17), good for a tie for 13th.
Senior Dave Putney (Unionville, Conn.) had a strong tournament to end his collegiate career, finishing just one stroke behind Mullany to tie for 16th with a 228 (+18). Freshman James Pleat (Nashua, N.H.) was seven-over on the day and 23-over for the tournament, carding a 233 to tie for 23rd. After tying for the team's low score in the second round, sophomore Teddy Overton (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) was disqualified on Sunday.
