HANOVER, N.H. – With a seven-goal effort in the second half, the Dartmouth field hockey team rolled to a 9-2 victory over the visiting Bryant Bulldogs on Sunday at Chase Field. The win gives the Big Green a 4-0 record for the first time since 2000 as junior Meghan Everett (Flemington, N.J.) recorded a career-high three goals to lead the way for Dartmouth.
After scores by Kelly McHenry (Williamsburg, Va.) and Maya Herm (Bethesda, Md.) in the first half, the Big Green went into the break leading, 2-1. The Bulldogs (0-5) held the advantage in corners, 5-3 but Dartmouth had 14 shots to Bryant's 10, despite the visitors getting the first three of the game.
Everett used all three of her goals to help Dartmouth rack up seven strikes and stymie a Bryant offense that was able to challenge Big Green netminder Meagan Vakiener (Port Murray, N.J.) throughout most of the contest.
Lisa Masini (Ann Arbor, Mich.) from Kerry Bracco (Hampton Falls, N.H.) scored first for Dartmouth very early in the second half before an unassisted goal by Everett gave the Big Green a 4-1 lead. The Bears got one back off a strike by Brittany Glenn on a successful corner 15 minutes into the frame but Everett answered less than two minutes later to put the game away.
Claire Byrne (Rye, N.Y.) notched her second collegiate goal 49:44 into the contest before Virginia Peisch (Koenigstein, Germany), McHenry and Everett tallied the final scores for the Big Green.
Masini, Bracco, Peisch, Byrne and Herm also recorded assists on the day for Dartmouth.
Vakiener finished with 11 saves while Bryant goalie, Jennifer Gullotti had 10. The Big Green were tops with 37 shots while the Bulldogs had 16.
Dartmouth opens Ivy League play on Friday, Sept. 17 at No. 5 Princeton (6 p.m.) before coming home again on Sept. 25 against Brown (12 p.m.) and Sept. 26 versus Holy Cross (2 p.m.).
