Fresh off a cross-country trip to California, the Dartmouth women's soccer team is back on the road to take on Quinnipiac and Penn State this weekend.
Dartmouth (1-2-1) picked up a tie against #17 San Diego, 1-1 (2OT) but left California winless with a tough 2-1 loss to Pepperdine two days later. Just days after touching back down on the East coast the Big Green will be on the bus this weekend, traveling to Quinnipiac for a Friday contest and down to Penn State for a Sunday matinee.
The Big Green is in the midst of a five-game road swing including a trip to UNH next Thursday, Sept. 23 and won't return to Burnham Field for a game until Sept. 26 when it hosts Brown.

A LOOK AT DARTMOUTH: The Big Green (1-2-1) had mixed results on its trip west to California, home state of seven players - nearly one third of the 24-woman team. In the opener, Dartmouth picked up a 1-1 double overtime tie against 17th ranked San Diego. Kim Rose (Seaford, N.Y.) put Dartmouth up in the 62nd minute and the lead nearly held but the Toreros managed to get one across in the 82nd minute to force overtime. Junior goalie Colleen Hogan (Houston, Texas) had a solid outing, making five saves including three in overtime. On Sunday, Dartmouth fell behind 1-0 in the first minute at Pepperdine but an Aly O'Dea (Irvine, Calif.) goal tied it up before halftime. A second half penalty kick proved the difference maker for the Waves, who took a 2-1 victory over the Big Green.
A LOOK AT QUINNIPIAC: The Bobcats (0-4) are still looking for their first win of the season, with three of their losses coming by one goal. Quinnipiac took losses at Army, 3-0, and Lehigh, 3-2, before falling to Siena, 1-0 in its home opener. The game against Dartmouth opens a three-game homestand for the Bobcats, who went 8-7-2 last season. Quinnipiac has had three different goal scorers' this season and Furtuna Velaj leads the team in points with three (one goal, one assist). Jillian Kelley has a 2.25 goals against average and 17 saves on the season.
A LOOK AT PENN STATE: Sunday's contest will mark the final nonconference game of the season for Penn State (2-5-1), which has already played eight contests to Dartmouth's four. The Nittany Lions started the season ranked in the top-20 and opened with a quality win at West Virginia and tied Virginia, both games going to overtime. A 2-1 loss to William & Mary started a five game losing streak for Penn State, including a 1-0 loss to Ivy foe Yale. The Nittany Lions finally got back in the win column with a 5-1 victory over Bucknell on Wednesday. Penn State has three players who have scored at least three goals, led by Danielle Toney's four goals (eight points). Krissy Tribbett has played nearly the entire season in goal and carries a 1.72 goals against average.
HEY, I KNOW YOU: Penn State head coach Erica Walsh just happens to be the second-winningest coach in Dartmouth women's soccer history. Walsh led the Big Green for three seasons from 2000-02 with an overall record of 37-15-2 and a win percentage of .703. She led Dartmouth to two Ivy Championships and three NCAA Tournaments including the Sweet 16 in 2000 and 2001. She coached Dartmouth in its only meeting with Penn State, a 4-0 loss in the 2000 NCAA Tournament.
SHE'S A VETERAN NOW: In her sixth season, head coach Angie
Hind is now tied with Steve Swanson (1990-95) as the longest-tenured Dartmouth
coach. With such a rich history of success, many former coaches are still in
the collegiate game including Swanson, now at Virginia, Erica Walsh at Penn
State and Ben Landis at Bucknell. With 48 wins to her credit, Hind is just
seven victories away from tying Swanson for the most wins by a head coach in
program history.
ALL-TOURNAMENT TALENT: Three Dartmouth players were named to the all-tournament
team after the 2010 Dartmouth Nike Classic. Sophomore defender Aurelia Solomon
(Washington, D.C.) was named to the squad and tabbed the tournament's defensive
MVP. She was joined on the team by senior forward Peyton Tata (Virginia Beach,
Va.) and freshman midfielder Marina Moschitto (Andover, Mass.), who has started
all four games this season.
NEXT TIME OUT: Dartmouth continues its road swing with a trip to instate rival UNH on Thursday, Sept. 23 for a 4 p.m. start. It's finally back to Hanover on Sunday, Sept. 26 to open the Ivy slate against Brown at 1 p.m.
