FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Continuing to play solid golf, Dartmouth junior Peter Williamson (Hanover, N.H.) shot one-under par on the final day of The McLaughlin held at Bethpage, completing the tournament with a 69-71-69—209 (-1) to place seventh among the 81 golfers. The Big Green finished the tournament hosted by St. John's 12th out of 15 teams with a 291-290-287—868 (+28) on the par-70, 6,759-yard Red Course.
West Florida took the team title by finishing two-under par as a team in the three rounds with an 838, while Princeton was just two strokes behind. Josh Briere of Johnson & Wales (Fla.) and Brendan Kelly of Villanova tied for medalist honors with a 207, but it was Briere that came up with the shot of the tournament, acing the par-4 fourth hole for a double eagle.
Williamson could hardly have been more consistent during the three rounds, making par on 43 of the 54 holes, the most of any golfer on hand. He birdied six holes and bogeyed just five to comprise his one-under par. Sophomore James Pleat (Nashua, N.H.) enjoyed his best round of the tournament by shooting even par to card a 215 (+5) to tie for 32nd.
The Big Green trio of sophomores Owen Lynch (Rumford, R.I.) and Andrew Jankowski (Elkins, N.H.), and freshman Joe Mazier each shot a 74 (+4) in the third round as they each tied for 65th at 13-over par (223). Participating as an individual, junior Teddy Overton (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) joined the threesome with a 223 for the tournament, carding a 76 on Saturday.
Dartmouth returns to the links on Monday, Sept. 27 at the Hartford Hawk Invitational for a two-day tournament.
