NEW YORK, N.Y. — The Dartmouth men's tennis team competed at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center Invitational this past weekend with two individuals taking home first place and one doubles duo finishing first.
Freshman Cameron Ghorbani (Lexington, Mass.) was the sole dual winner as he finished first at fifth singles and won second doubles with senior Curtis Roby (New York, N.Y.). In his singles final, Ghorbani defeated Penn's Rob Wong 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Ghorbani was unseeded in the draw. In the doubles final, Ghorbani and Roby won after Harvard's Davis Mangham and Jonathan Pearlman withdrew due to injury. Ghorbani and Roby were unseeded in the draw.
The other Big Green winner was sophomore Alex de Chatellus (Tiburon, Calif.) who took home the top place in the sixth singles draw. Chatellus entered the tournament as the top seed and defeated fourth-seeded Zach Dean of Yale in the finals, 6-2, 6-3.
Dartmouth also had a second place finish as the doubles team of Chatellus and John Kelly (Owings Mills, Md) earned the runner-up spot in the third doubles draw. The duo upset the second seed from Penn in the quarterfinals, but lost to Mike Hill and Tim Klanke of Brown in the finals, 8-6.
The Big Green next compete at home for the Dartmouth Shootout on Friday, Oct. 1, and it runs through Sunday, Oct. 3.
